This Acti9 surge arrester is a Type 2 device, installed at the distribution board downstream of the main incomer. Even installations without a lightning rod still see induced surges from nearby strikes and switching transients from ordinary grid operation, which is why Type 2 is treated as the baseline protection level for any distribution board. Built for a three-phase-plus-neutral circuit, it holds a 275V Uc rating (maximum continuous operating voltage) -- high enough above everyday supply voltage to avoid nuisance tripping, low enough to still react promptly when a surge hits. Its 20kA nominal discharge current (In) is the standardized rating for repeated surge events, backed by a 20kA maximum discharge capacity for a single severe event. The voltage protection level (Up) is under 1.5kV -- this is the residual voltage actually passed through to connected equipment during a surge, the figure that determines whether that equipment survives.
