Schneider Electric Surge Protectors

This is a Type 2 Acti9 surge arrester, the class most commonly specified at distribution and sub-distribution boards. Grid switching and nearby (not direct) lightning strikes still induce surges strong enough to damage equipment -- Type 2 is rated specifically to catch that category, and is the recommended minimum for any installation. Built for a three-phase circuit without neutral, it holds a 350V Uc rating (maximum continuous operating voltage) -- high enough above everyday supply voltage to avoid nuisance tripping, low enough to still react promptly when a surge hits. It carries a 15kA nominal discharge current (In) for repeated surge exposure, with headroom up to 40kA (Imax) for one severe hit. At under 1.6kV, the voltage protection level (Up) caps how much voltage reaches downstream equipment during a surge -- the single number that matters most for whether that equipment survives.
